Cafe Manager

Deadline: 14th January

Timespan is looking for an enthusiastic cook to manage our River Cafe. River Cafe is in a beauty spot in the Scottish Highlands overlooking the Helmsdale river and herb garden, and it’s central to Timespan’s organisational aims – we want to use food as a means of supporting local producers and creating community. We believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, sustainable and ethically sourced food and our aim is to work with community partners and producers to develop a local food web for the village.

Please see here for further application information and instructions.

Timespan is proud to offer a diverse portfolio of paid internships. These are structured work-based learning opportunities to support people from all backgrounds to work in the arts sector.

Curatorial Internship: Huntley Archives Exhibition Research

Deadline: 30th December 2018

Timespan is seeking a motivated intern to research the Guyanese activists and publishers Eric and Jessica Huntley’s archives, in relation to their pioneering Walter Rodney Bookshop and Bogle L’Ouverture Publications. The research will lead to a reconfiguration of the No Colour Bar exhibition at Timespan in March 2019 in collaboration with Friends of the Huntley Archives at LMA (FHALMA). The intern will be based primarily in London. Please download further information and application instructions here.

Artist Residencies

Deadline: 7th December 10PM

North AiR : Expanding Entanglements is a residency and research cooperation spanning six residency/ arts organisations in Scotland and Finland. Each partner fosters long term enquiries into its role and response-ability within the ecological crisis and together we look towards a post-fossil culture with a trans disciplinary approach. As a key part of this research cooperation we pool our resources and networks to think beyond dominant artist exchange models and look to question the role of artists’ residency in a time of climate breakdown.

Please see here for further information and application instructions.

Volunteers make a significant contribution to the work of Timespan, and we are committed to creating meaningful and productive roles for volunteers that will enable them to develop skills, knowledge and experience.

We currently have volunteer programmes in the following categories:

We’re looking to expand our lovely herb garden to include a modest kitchen garden of salads and veg. If you’ve got green fingers and keen to learn from hardened gardeners about successfully growing herbs and veg in a difficult northern environment, get in touch.

Archive & Collection

We’re committed to fully digitising our archive and collections and are looking for people who would like to learn cataloguing, archiving and object preservation skills.

Timespan is blessed by our committed and hard-working Friends of Timespan who organise a range of fun and joyous events including ceilidhs, fashion shows, Burns Night suppers and quizzes. If you’ve got an idea for village events and would like to join Friends of Timespan, please get in touch.
