Oliver Mezger: The Big Lament

Inspired by Margaret Tait’s film Caora Mor: The Big Sheep, Digital Artist Oliver Mezger has set out to examine the ongoing relevance of pibroch, Highland piping and lament to contemporary culture.

The series of events include

Wed 30 October, 11am – 3pm
The Lunch Club Lament £5
partners with Age Scotland for the Luminate Creative Ageing Festival. George and Alexandra Stewart will present an introduction to pibroch and to canntaireachd, mouth music of the Highland bagpipes. Including lunch, Community Centre, Helmsdale.

Wed 30 October & Fri 1 November, 6.30 – 8pm
Canntaireachd Mouth Music Workshop Free
by Barnaby Brown. Timespan, Helmsdale.

Sat 2 November
10am – 1pm: The Big Lament Symposium £5
with Barnaby Brown, Peter Todd, and Kirsty Gunn. Timespan, Helmsdale.

2 – 3pm: The Big Lament Procession Free
along Strathnaver Street, Sutherland Street and Dunrobin Street.

3.30 – 8.30pm: The Big Lament Film Screening and Ceilidh £5
including High Tea, Portgower Hall, transport from Helmsdale provided.
