In 1869, over five hundred gold prospectors trekked from all corners of the country to the far north to Kildonan looking for gold. The yearlong gold rush was started by Robert Nelson Gilchrist and the prospectors’ settlement was appropriately named ‘Baile an Or’ or ‘Township of Gold’.
