From 2 pm to 3pm- The Voices that Shaped Us

Join us for the first in a series of fortnightly Saturday morning screenings showcasing archival and international films that focus on the harsh realities of the climate crisis, including issues such as sea extractivism, land rights, exploitation of the earth’s resources, declining biodiversity, and gender inequality. These films will draw on both local and global perspectives and stories.

Saturday 3rd August
11 am-1 pm Screenings

We will present a selection of short films exploring the working lives and collective power of Scottish women herring gutters, who travelled along the east coast from Shetland to Yarmouth following the herring shoals. After World War 2, the decline of the herring fishery resulted in many gutters returning home, but their independent spirit opened up new opportunities in other areas of employment.
The films include:

Join us in the relaxing Library lounge for an hour of stimulating conversation where participants are encouraged to share stories and memories in a friendly and supportive environment. Refreshments by donation or pay what you can.
