Walk from Helmsdale to Brora
Part of Coastal Commons’s programme

We will accompany Claudia Zeiske on a portion of her walk around the entire Route 500, from Helmsdale to Brora. Claudia is currently undertaking a project aimed at walking the Route 500 on foot, highlighting the need to slow down. Slow Cost 500 considers the role of tourism in either making or breaking places. While tourism is often intended to boost local economies, it can also create problems for local communities and their environment.

The walk is approximately 11 miles long and will last for 5 hours. We should arrive in Brora by 4 pm, where we will organise a pick-up to return to Helmsdale after enjoying gelato from Capaldi.

The meeting is at 9:15 am in front of Timespan, with a departure at 9:30 am. It is recommended to wear hiking boots and bring rainproof clothing. It is also advised to bring a packed lunch and snacks.
