Charles Fraser-Mackintosh and His Book Collection

Saturday 11 November 2023

From 11:30 am to 4:00 pm

Join us on Saturday Nov 11th for the latest PMA talk and book-making workshop inspired by Charles Fraser-Mackintosh & His Book Collection

From 11:30 to 12:30
Join UHI Inverness researcher Melanie Manwaring-McKay to hear the story of Charles Fraser-Mackintosh. Learn about his important Highland collection and the man who collected it, including his childhood; his career as an MP, best known for support of Gaelic and involvement in the Napier Commission to look at Crofters’ rights; and his passion for antiquarian research and writing.

The Charles Fraser-Mackintosh Library of 5000 books and pamphlets was gifted to Inverness in 1921. It is one of the special collections housed in Inverness Public Library.

From 13:45 to 16:00
In the afternoon Melanie invites you to a free book-making session where you will stitch your own book and explore the material qualities of books. There will also be a tour of the People’s Mobile Archive library in Timespan.

For book lovers and history enthusiasts – join us for either or both events!
