Adeola is a second year PhD candidate at the University of St Andrews, interested in investigating how immersive technologies – virtual reality headsets, game controllers and drones – can be leveraged for heritage exploration and interpretation. During his placement at Timespan he will be developing a drone-based communication system that facilities remote aerial tours of surrounding landscapes. This will also enable a juxtaposition of the Caen landscape today with an existing reconstruction of the landscape as it was in the 19th century. He will also be working on providing museum visitors with an immersive experience of a 19th century curing yard – the site if which is now occupied by the museum building. This will enable museum visitors to travel back in time to see what the curing yard looked like from equivalent, present-day vantage points.
