Between the Hills and the Sea: Christina Sealey
Canadian artist Christina Sealey exhibition ‘Between the Hills and the Sea,’ presented a series of portraits inspired by a residency in the Caithness, Sutherland and Ross-shire region in 2004.
Sealey is a figurative artist who completed her MFA at the Edinburgh College of Art and has exhibited extensively within Canada and the United Kingdom. During her residency, she interviewed, drew and photographed people from a variety of backgrounds, ages and occupations in various communities. Christina then returned to Canada and used this research to produce the new series of paintings. The images created depict individuals in exterior and interior environments that they consider significant, exploring the relationships between members of these close-knit communities and the influence of the distinctive landscape, climate and history.
