Aileen M Stackhouse

Aileen was delighted to be awarded a RSA Residency in 2009 to research and develop ideas for new work and wanted to come to Helmsdale because of its landscape and history. She studied Sculpture in the School of Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee. She went on to study for her Masters and then Doctorate in Fine Art.

Aileen makes works that examine how people experience the world and how our perception is influenced by, amongst other things; time, light/dark, memory, emotion and environment. She uses drawing, photography and film to create site specific works that change over time. Aileen has exhibited in Scotland and Portugal and works both as a part time lecturer in Fine Art and as a dyslexia support worker at the University of Dundee.

At Timespan Aileen will explore the landscape around Helmsdale and use Timespan’s archive and other local resources to begin collecting and making images. She has decided to split the residency into two periods of time, midsummer and midwinter 2010, and use them as groundwork for responding to her experience of Helmsdale.
